Passionate filmmaker Gunasekhar’s ambitious pan-India mythological magnum opus, Shaakuntalam starring Samantha in the titular role is gearing up for a February 17th release. Based on a popular play Abhigyanam Shakuntalam by Kalidasa, Shaakuntalam is aiming for a simultaneous release in Telugu, Hindi, and other South languages.
Meanwhile, the latest reports from our sources indicate that the film might not release on the announced date. If the news turns into reality, it is for the second time Shaakuntalam is getting postponed. Earlier, the makers announced that the film will hit the screens in November but postponed it to February. Will the film’s release be pushed to summer? Remains to be seen.
Star hero Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha is making her silver screen debut as Prince Bharata in the film. Also starring Malayalam actor Dev Mohan, and senior artists such as Mohan Babu among others in key roles, Shaakuntalam is made in 3D format. Gunasekhar’s daughter Neelima Guna is turning producer with this ambitious poetic romance drama. Dil Raju is presenting it. The film also has Gautami, Aditi Balan and Ananya Nagalla in supporting roles. Mani Sharma is the music composer.
