Superstar Krishna’s unforgettable service to Tollywood

Superstar Krishna celebrated his 77th birthday yesterday, and has a long career in Tollywood, as a hero, producer, director and so many other things. He was the first bonafide James Bond of Telugu Cinema, having played a spy in the 1966 film Gudachari 116. He was also the first actor to ever essay the cowboy role in Telugu films.

He also produced several technologically integrated films in Telugu; he was the first to introduce Eastmancolor films in Telugu, with Eenadu in 1982, the first cinemascope film with Alluri Seetharama Raju in 1974, the first 70mm film with Simhasanam in 1986, and the first DTS film with Telugu Veera Levara in 1995. Alluri Seetharama Raju is also known to be South India’s first cinemascope film.

Krishna also holds a special record for acting in over 350 films, and for sharing screen space with legends like NT Ramarao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He also holds a special record for acting in more than 48 films with his wife, the late Vijaya Nirmala. Superstar Krishna is a recipient of several awards, including the Padma Bhushan and several Filmfare awards. His last film was Sri Sri in 2016, and he hasn’t been seen on screen ever since. Here’s hoping he continues to entertain us for several more years.
