Sonu Nigam is facing fresh legal trouble as Bengaluru’s Avalahalli police plan to approach the Karnataka High Court again. Sources say Nigam ignored three police notices related to the Kannada concert controversy. The police also intend to write to the Advocate General, asking to cancel the High Court’s interim protection order.
The issue began at a Bengaluru concert under Avalahalli Police jurisdiction, where an audience member repeatedly asked Nigam to sing a Kannada song. Nigam allegedly linked the demand to the Pahalgam terror attack, which angered Kannada cultural groups and sparked protests.
On May 3rd the cop filed an FIR against him under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal intimidation, intentional insult and public mischief.
Nigam responded by filing a petition in the Karnataka High Court on May 14th to quash the FIR and complaint. The court granted interim relief, allowing him to avoid coercive action if he cooperates, including giving his statement via video call or in person.
Now, with Nigam reportedly ignoring notices, the police may ask the court to lift the protection and continue the investigation.
