Anurag Kashyap explained why Shah Rukh Khan requested he refrain from using Twitter. The director also discussed his friendship with Shah Rukh, referring to him as his “big brother.”
In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap talked openly about the counsel Shah Rukh Khan gave him. The director claimed that Shah Rukh, a classmate of his from Delhi’s Hansraj College, explained to him “why he should not say certain things” and even urged him to “not be on Twitter.”
Anurag had taken a break from Twitter a few years back after the altercation between students and police at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi around the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Anurag described Shah Rukh as “like a big brother” who always tells him “what he must not do” in a recent interview. Additionally, he said that the actor “had given up on him.” Shah Rukh’s Pathaan has received praise from director Anurag Kashyap in recent interviews and on social media. He also claimed that the actor believes he “does not understand things.”
Wo to mere college ke senior hai, Main phone attend karne ke liye khada ho jata hoon, ka phone ata hai (Shah Rukh is my senior from college, I stand up and take his call, whenever he calls me)… He has lost interest in me. Mujhe kuch samajh nahi ayega, unko lagta hai ki mera kuch nahi ho sakta (Shah Rukh thinks I do not understand things). He constantly reminds me of the things I must not do, like a big brother. He explained to me why I shouldn’t tweet or say certain things, Anurag stated in an interview with Unfiltered By Samdish.
Speaking further about his relationship with Shah Rukh and the reason he hasn’t collaborated on a project with the star, Anurag remarked, “Mere ko har cheeze ke bare mein bola unhone, filmein bhi. Asoka himself said, “Mere paas likne ke liye.” Main tabhi se thoda avoid karta tha, unke bohut sare aese projects ate then. Shah Rukh Khan has a unique worldview and stardom.
Mujhe wahi banana hai, main jaisi film banana chahta hoon. Everyone who cares about me wants me to view life the way they do, not just him Everything that a normal person should or must do in the eyes of the world, including saving money and being practical, is what (Shah Rukh) does and must do. Shah Rukh has advised me on a variety of topics. Many of his films, including Asoka, were first offered to me as scripts.
But I’ve always shied away from them because Shah Rukh has a unique perspective and star power, and I can’t make movies that do him credit. I want to create movies in my own unique way. Shah Rukh has attempted to encourage me to cut costs or become more frugal, just like others who care about me, but I want to live my life as I see fit.
