In the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, there was a new update on Monday evening when the police traced the owner of the SIM card used by the accused, Shariful Islam. The SIM card is believed to be registered under a woman from West Bengal, who claimed her phone had been missing for several days.
The investigation began after the Mumbai police arrested a man named Vijay Das, three days after the incident, who was later found to be Shariful Islam using a fake name.
As the investigation continued, the police discovered that Shariful was a Bangladeshi national who had crossed into India looking for better opportunities and had been living under different identities.
They also found that he spent time in West Bengal, where he got a new phone number to stay in touch with his family in Bangladesh. Shariful later moved to Mumbai, where he worked odd jobs without proper documents.
The police investigated areas in West Bengal, specifically the Nadia and Murshidabad districts, where Shariful was arrested. They also made him contact his brother, who provided documents like a school leaving certificate as proof of his nationality.
