Many directors and writers tried to ape Krishna Vamsi’s style of making a family drama. The creative director’s impact with Ninne Pelladutha and Murari is so much that even the director himself failed to recreate the magic with Chandamama and Govindudu Andharivadele. Here, new director Kalyan Krishna Kurasala, coming after the blockbuster outing, Soggade Chinni Nayana, tries to give his twist to the creative Krishna Vamsi’s mad world of emotions galore. Plot : Any girl from a conservative household tries to imagine her future life with her husband with many dreams in her eyes. Such typical homely girl is Bhramarambha (Rakul Preet Singh). She is innocent, bubbly and vibrant but strict about what she wants in life. As she is the only girl child in her household after many boys, she is treated as a Queen and that makes her a bit too stubborn and selfish. She meets Shiva (Naga Chaitanya) at a family friend’s wedding. Shiva likes her instantaneously but Bhramarambha takes her own time to trust him. When she needs a friend to feel comfortable in alien conditions she turns to Shiva and they both develop a relationship. While Shiva wants it to be love, Bhramarambha looks at it as friendship. Performances : Naga Chaitanya improved a lot in terms of ease in front of the camera and now, if he improves in his comic timing, he will entertain audience even more. This film is a major improvement from his earlier performances like 100% Love and Oka Laila Kosam. His dialogue delivery and expressions are slowly getting better and better with each movie.
Rakul Preet Singh has the best character written, in recent times for a lead actress in Telugu Cinema. She tries too hard to behave like Bhramarambha and her version at times is lovable while many times feel artificial. May be a better and seasoned actress could have pulled it off really well. She has a natural chemistry with Naga Chaitanya but director fails to explore it after a point on screen.
Jagapathi Babu should have been used much better by the director but his character is in the film for just few scenes and doesn’t really help the film in any sense. Had the writer found a way to incorporate his character much more in the story, he could have been off a great help. Anyways, he just sleep walks through his scenes.
Sampath Raj is an asset to this film but the character is too routine for him to prove his acting skills beyond a point. Kousalya, Annapurna, Chalapathi Rao, Banerjee, Sapthagiri, Prithvi, Raghu Babu all fill up the screen but none of them create an impact. Vennela Kishore proves to be a major highlight for the movie.
Technicalities : Cinematography by Vishwa is promising to an extent. His concepts in framing and staging does work in his point of view but they don’t help the movie much. In creating a consistent tone, he does fail but he makes sure that his visuals are eye pleasing.
Editing by Gautham Raju is definitely not his best job. He does a good job in creating a consistent pace in the second hour but during the first 30 minutes, the film looks highly disjointed. Many scenes seems to have been chopped off in the final cut. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is good with songs. He manages to create an impact with popular songs but his back ground score even though sounds good doesn’t sync properly to the proceedings.
Writer-Director Kalyan Krishna Kurasala is good in writing dialogues but he fails to create an impact in the movie. His characters feel old and the situations he tried to create on screen are highly routine. He did a great job in writing an absurd concept like Soggade Chinni Nayana into an enjoyable film, but he in trying ape Krishna Vamsi fails to capture the magical chemistry that the lead pair seems to have off screen and at times on screen too.
If his characters feel made for each other or madly in love with each other, then an audience member can carry on with the emotion but if his characters feels like too old then no one can help the screenplay that is written on a wafer thin plot that has been explored by many writers and directors on screen. He needed to believe more in his characters journey rather than trying to induce other elements to balance out the expectations of fans.
Analysis : Movies based on parents loving their kids, especially girl child, is no alien to Telugu Cinema. In fact that has been the biggest box office commercial formula for many films. So, an audience walking into such films expect them to be as fresh as possible but Kalyan at best manages to give a collection of few good moments from the old movies and fails to take the best inspiration possible. On the whole, movie tries to ride on the characters and actors but the writer who needed to create a strong environment for them to prosper fails to negate the deja vu. This celebration is at best a one time watch!
