Any big film in Telugu Film Industry, coming with huge pricetags try to have as many free weeks as possible to continue prospering at the box office. Free weeks in a filmi dictionary mean a week without any new movie releases. Whenever, there is a big film, distributors and exhibitors look to ensure that there is atleast one free week available for the big film and if the film manages to bring in more and more audience, they continue to sell the tickets at hiked prices. The hiked prices die down after two or three weeks run or even if the film doesn’t manage to get a positive response.
Katamarayudu, Pawan Kalyan starrer released this Ugadi weekend on 24th of March. The movie was released in record number of theatres amidst huge buzz. Everyone thought there would be no releases scheduled for the next week as well, that is, 31st March barring some low budget films that find a theatre or two after a huge blocking by the distributors of the film. But contrast to the belief, big movies like Venkatesh starrer Guru and Puri Jagannath directorial Rogue have scheduled their releases for 31st March.
This leaves us surprised as the distributors would have made agreements with exhibitors for atleast two weeks looking at the Ugadi festival advantage in villages and towns. But the producers seem to have no problem in securing the theatres and with the two big films, Nayantara’s Dora, Karulo Shikarukelthe, Enthavaraku E Prema have also decided to come for the 31st date. It is interesting to see how Katamarayudu will sustain at the box office with these new releases.
