Netrikann Movie Review and Rating!

Star heroine Nayanthara’s 65th film, Netrikann’s rights are bagged by popular digital channel Disney Plus Hotstar. Directed by Milind Rau, the film is out on the streaming channel today. Let’s see how it goes.

Story: Durga( Nayanthara), a visually challenged ex-CBI officer comes across a gynaecologist turned serial kidnapper James Dinan( Ajmal Ameer). Who is James Dinan? What is his motive behind serial kidnaps? How will Nayanthara take on the psycho doctor with the help of a cop named Manikandan(Manikandan)? Is there any strong incident behind Durga loosing her eyesight? To know the answer to the above questions, you have to watch the film on Disney Plus Hotstar.

Performances: Nayanthara leads the show from the front end and creates an impact with her acting. She literally carries the film on her shoulder and impresses big-time with her performance as a visually challenged lady.

Actor Ajmal Ameer is okay with his screen presence but his character as a menacing psycho has not been projected in a proper manner. His facial expressions in the crucial scenes are not up to the mark and don’t even create fear in the audience.

Manikandan as a cop and young actor Sharan Shakti did a good job in the given crucial roles. The rest of the supporting artists are okay in their respective roles.

Technicalities: Cinematography by RD Rajasekhar is top-notch as he tried to capture the film in an effective manner. The rain effect night mood shots are showcased neatly by using good frames by the cinematographer.

Girishh Gopalakrishnan’s music just goes with the flow but his background score for key tense scenes brings depth to an extent. Editing work is disappointing as the film lacks sharpness in it. Production values for this limited budget movie are okay.

Analysis: The makers have already revealed that Netrikann is an official remake of the 2011 released South Korean crime thriller, Blind but the remake version suffers from the illogical and dull presentation.

Focusing more on Nayanthara’s image is not a bad idea but adding to it the team would have concentrated on coming up with a racy screenplay and proper character establishment scenes to make things more appealing for the viewers. A few crucial episodes like Nayanthara escaping from Metro station and the psycho investigation are not executed in an engaging manner and viewers feel like too much cinematic liberty has been taken in the Ajmal’s escaping from police custody episode.

Overall, Netrikann is a slow-paced thriller that lacks racy narration and impactful detailing.

Verdict: Watch it for Nayanthara’s performance!!!

Rating: 2/5
