Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, a documentary on actress Nayanthara has run into legal trouble once again.
AP International has filed a case claiming that scenes from the 2005 film Chandramukhi, starring Rajinikanth, were used without permission.
They hold the copyright for the film and have demanded the removal of the footage and Rs. 5 crore in compensation. The Madras High Court has issued notices to Netflix and Tarc Studios, asking them to respond within two weeks.
This controversy follows a similar case filed by actor Dhanush’s production house, Wunderbar Films. They allege that a three second clip from his 2015 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was used in the documentary without approval.
Dhanush has demanded Rs 1 crore in damages. In response, Nayanthara stated that all such footage had already been removed and denied any copyright violation. Both legal cases have brought increased scrutiny to the documentary’s use of film clips.
