In a direct communication, director A.R. Murugadoss discussed making August 16, 1947.

At a Friday event to promote his upcoming film “August 16, 1947,” director A.R. Murugadoss revealed an open letter that was both honest and memorable.

Murugadoss addressed his compatriots and urged them not to take India’s independence for granted. He discussed the valiantly fought battle for our country’s freedom and emphasised many of the wounds and scars that remained after the war. The unconventional speaker ended his speech with a motivational saying.

The audience was profoundly and dramatically affected by A.R. Murugadoss’ message, just like the films he is well-known for. His open admission of why he decided to create “August 16, 1947” was also met with enthusiastic applause.

Talking about his emotional note, A.R. Murugadoss says, “Freedom is not given to you, it is something you obtain with struggle and self-belief. In my own personal life, neither do I come from a film background nor do I have any formal education, and yet, I overcame all those fears to make films”.

Elaborating on his upcoming release on August 16, 1947, A.R. Murugadoss adds, “In the beginning, we intended this film to be a Tamil release, but as we moved ahead, the unanimous reaction was that our story needs to be seen on a wider Pan-India scale. August 16, 1947 will surprise and enthral you all at once. During an era when the country was stuck in a British cage, our film tells the story of a village that was trapped in a cage inside a cage and how it bravely fought back”

Jayantilal Gada, a renowned producer, also attended the occasion. Mr. Gada, the director of blockbusters like Kahaani, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and RRR, will soon release the Hindi adaptation of “August 16, 1947.”

The movie “August 16, 1947,” which was produced by A.R. Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt, and Narsiram Choudhary, tells the tale of a former village where a single citizen motivates his fellow citizens to fight against the evil British rulers just as India is about to achieve independence. The movie, which will be released on April 7 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and English, is a story of bravery, loyalty, and love.

Well, if A.R. Murugadoss’ letter is any indication, we can anticipate an exciting tale that reveals a part of our past that no one dared to reveal!

August 16, 1947, a film by A.R. Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt, and Narsiram Choudhary, with co-production from Aditya Joshi, is presented by Purple Bull Entertainment. Released globally on April 7, 2023, starring Gautham Karthik, Revathy, Pugazh, and others. Directed by NS Ponkumar.
