Remaking hit films is common, and using the same title for new movies is equally popular. However, selecting a title today is challenging, as it needs to match the story and theme. Sometimes, filmmakers choose to reuse old titles, but their success varies. Here are some examples:
In 2001, Pawan Kalyan and Bhumika starred in the movie Kushi, which was a massive hit. After 22 years, Vijay Devarakonda used the same title for his movie in 2023, starring Samantha as the heroine. However, this movie did not achieve the same level of success as Pawan’s Kushi.
This was Pawan Kalyan’s debut movie in 1996 and had moderate success. After 28 years, the same title was used for Pradeep’s movie. This film received positive responses but did not have huge success.
Nithin’s Ishq was a huge hit, but Teja Sajja’s Ishq failed at the box office.
The movie starring NTR and Krishna titled Devudu Chesina Manushulu was a hit, whereas the version with Ravi Teja and Puri Jagannadh was a failure.
Chiranjeevi’s Rudraveena was a meaningful movie but a box-office disaster. Later, the same title was used for another film, which passed unnoticed.
The film starring Krishna and Vijayashanti was a moderate success, and years later, the title was used again for a movie starring Naga Shaurya. It also had moderate success.

Rajendra Prasad’s Aa Okkati Adakku in a combination with Satyanarayana, was a hit, but the remake starring Allari Naresh in 2024 failed.
Mani Ratnam’s Geethanjali with Nagarjuna was a classic, but a film starring Anjali with the same title did decently, while Geethanjali Malli Vachindi was a disaster.
Nagarjuna’s Majnu was a super hit, and Nani’s movie Majnu also did well at the box office.

The movie Missamma with NTR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Savitri (1955) was a success. A remake in 2003 with Bhoomika, Laya, and Shivaji also performed well.
In 1961, Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s movie Iddaru Mitrulu had moderate success. In 1999, Chiranjeevi’s film with the same title flopped.
The 1957 classic Mayabazar remains a cult film, but the 2006 movie with the same title under the direction of Indraganti Mohan Krishna didn’t succeed.
Released in 1980, Sankarabharanam was a classic movie. A 2015 remake with Nikhil failed miserably.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s Srimanthudu in 1971 had moderate success, but Mahesh Babu’s 2015 movie with the same title was a massive hit.
The 1987 film Maharsh was a failure at the box office. However, the remake with Mahesh Babu became a commercial success.
