Mathu Vadalara 2 Story: After escaping a crazy case in the first part, Yesu(Satya) and Babu(Sri Simha Koduri) join the HE team and they are cops now. The start investing a case related to Akash(Ajay) and accidentally kill him. But the twist in the tale arises when someone else frames them in the same case. The rest of the story is as to how the two crazy cops get out of the case and nab the real culprits.
Performances: There is no denying the fact that Mathu Vadalara 2 is also Satya’s show all the way. Right from the first scene to the end, Satya kills it with his hilarious performance. His dialogue delivery and punch lines evoke solid laughs. Watch out for his dance tribute to Chiranjeevi, it will leave you in splits.
Sri Simha Koduri has improved a bit from his previous films and does well. Faria Abdullah does not have much to do in the film but looks good. Sunil is also okay but one gets a feeling that he is not utilized properly. Vennela Kishore impresses in his small role. Ajay and Rohini do their bit in the film.
Technical Aspects: Kaala Bhairava has composed the music and his music and background music suits the mood of the film. The production design is wacky and elevated the set up nicely. The writing is okay but does not have meat in the second half.
One gets a feeling that there should have been more gags and comedy in the second half. The dialogues are hilarious and the tongue in cheek humor works well only in the first half. The camera work and visuals are good. The comedy gags work only in parts.
Analysis: Mathu Vadalara was a smash hit due to its situational comedy and worked well. So director Ritesh Rana has taken the same team and has come up with the sequel. Well, did the film live up to all the hype or not, the question is a moderate yes only.
Well, the film clicks well in the first half and has good comedy. The gags and Satya’s comedy keep you at bay. The interval point is also good and one gets a feeling that the second half will also be packed with solid humor.
But that does not happen and the film ends up as thriller more than a crime comedy in the second half. The writing is weak and only the last twenty minutes make sense. The comedy created does not work at all and things work only in the climax time.
There was so much scope for the comedy to be highlighted but that does not happen. However, the reference to Chiranjeevi and the gags featuring Satya and his dance will impress you big time and end the film on a good note.
A small twist has also been added and the hint to the third lart looks good. Ritesh Rana has directed the film and does well for the most part. But his writing is weak in the latter half.
Just to create tension and confusion, he prolonged the story and this is where the film goes down in the second half. The slow pace in the latter part is also an issue and things take time to come to an end making this film just a passable watch.
Verdict: Overall, Mathu Vadalara 2 has decent laughs in the first half and falters in the second. But it is Satya who kills it with his performance and all this who love loud comedy and funny scenarios, can give this film a shot but there is nothing great to rave about the sequel. Lower your expectations and watch the film.
Bottom Line: Strictly for a few laughs
Mathu Vadalara 2 Rating: 2.5/5
