Manushi Chhillar who recently appeared in the action thriller Maalik, spoke about the issue of typecasting a challenge many actors face after strong debut roles.
In an interview she shared that while being typecast can be seen as a compliment, it also limits an actor’s growth.
“It means you did something well enough that people associate you with it but it also becomes a challenge to break out of it” she said.
She believes that true artistry lies in versatility. To avoid being stuck in similar roles she feels it’s important to work with directors who take creative risks and cast actors in unexpected ways.
With Maalik released in theatres on July 11th Manushi played Shalini, the wife of Rajkummar Rao’s character. The film blends emotional drama and action giving her a chance to explore a more layered character and move beyond her usual image.
