Naga Ashwin is one young director in Telugu Cinema, who is ready to take one film and one film only for years until he gets everything right. He made Yevade Subramanyam with Nani and Vijay Devarakonda three years and waited till he could write the script of his movie, Mahanati based on Legendary actress Savitri’s real life. Many wanted to know the life of the actress who marked her image in the hearts of Telugu and Tamil Cinema lovers forever. How she managed to gather to courage to face such legendary actors and what he went through in personal life, to resemble so many emotions so flawlessly on screen. Nobody knows completely about her life and Naga Ashwin decided bring it to life.
For many days, he could not get the cast right has many stars did not wish to play the great actors on screen as they could end up being a laughing stock unable to match to their prowess. The director said, “ Dulquer is like a blessing to the film as he is constantly on his toes to improve the character and also understand the nuances to deliver the line in Telugu and Tamil. Period setting also is not something he is familiar with so he always had some questions that needed to be answered. We agreed on rather than imitating the great actor, it is better to represent him and understand his psyche than just imitate him.
“ He liked the script and after few sittings he got comfortable with the way I work too. He took all the available research material and also researched himself about the man. Looking at him as Gemini Ganeshan, made all the people in the set to clap for him. He understood him very well and I’m hopeful that people after watching will like him too.” In the movie, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is playing as a journalist and the talks are still on about who will play young NTR and ANR characters in the movie.
