Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva which had a release across Kerala on July 7th is out for public viewing in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: Being a plantation owner, Kurian aka Kaduvakkunel Kuruvachan( Prithviraj Sukumaran) is a well-respected man in society. But a small clash with IG Thomas Candy(Vivek Oberoi) leads to a strong rivalry between Kurian and the entire police department. What happens next? How will the clash affect Kurian’s family? What will Kurian do to safeguard his family? To know that, you have to watch the film in the cinemas near you.

Performances: Being one of the good performers from the Malayalam industry, Prithviraj Sukumaran yet again delivers power-packed acting in Kaduva. His mannerisms, body language and attitude are major assets of the film.

Vivek Oberoi gave a convincing performance as a high-grade police officer. Heroine Samyuktha Menon is good in her homely appearance but her role is not designed properly and also has lesser screen time. A few other noted Malayalam artists who did key roles are okay with their performance.

Technicalities: The cinematography work by Abinandhan Ramanujam is top-notch as he captured the rustic flavour in the movie in a superb manner. Special mention to action choreographers as they composed some authentic action sequences in both halves.

Editing by Shameer Muhammed is alright. Music by Jakes Bejoy is adequate. While the film has no scope for commercial songs, the background score registers well for action blocks. Production values for this limited-budget movie are okay and so is the case with the production design work.

Analysis: Director Shaji Kailas’ idea of making an action drama with Prithviraj is not a bad idea. Sticking to the genre, the director executed the entire first half on a racy note by inserting authentic action blocks and heroic elevation scenes at regular intervals.

But sadly after the good first half, the narration in the latter half runs at a slow pace which can be termed as a major minus for the film. To summerize, Kaduva is a regular action drama that has a few gripping episodes in the first half but the routine template scenes in the latter half might not go well with the action lovers as well.

Verdict: Regular action drama!

Rating: 2/5
