Karthi was in the town to promote his movie Cheliya, that is scheduled for a release this weekend. The movie has garnered a lot of buzz as it is a romantic movie directed by master filmmaker, Mani Ratnam and it is a story of an Indian Air Force pilot who falls in love and then works hard to attain it again after losing if to circumstances. Karthi expressed that the role would have been perfect fit for his brother, Suriya and he was surprised when he was given the script too.
But he then took it up as a challenge and tried to change his body shape to look fit for the role. He had to maintain the protein shake liquid diet for months through the shooting of the movie. He opined that it is hard to impress a tough technician like Mani Ratnam and being a genius the man catches on to your lapses within a jiffy and advises you in avoiding the same. He also shared that he used to get a ear-full whenever he annoyed him with questions as an assistant director bit now, being praised by him for his performance makes him proud.
Karthi, said that in almost decade long acting career the toughest role for him was this one and he will be looking completely different to what he did all along in his previous films. He praised his co-star, Aditi Rao Hydari as the most expressive actress he ever worked and hoped to share screen with her once again if possible. He wished if he will ever get a chance to even remotely appear in another Mani Ratnam, movie then he will try to much better than what he did in the movie and that would be the standard he would be aiming for in his career after this movie. He wished Cheliya would be remembered as the vintage films of the maker like Thalapathy, Geetanjali, Gharshana, Roja, Bombay and Dil Se.
