Is pan-Indian stardom a one time wonder for South stars?

Several actors from the South tried their luck in Bollywood in the past and failed on various scales. Megastar Chiranjeevi himself wasn’t able to impress Hindi audiences with 1994’s The Gentleman, which was a remake of the 1993 Tamil film of the same name. Prior to Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan were able to fare well in Bollywood, but no one since then has been able to do well in Bollywood, especially Telugu actors.

For the first time in history, Prabhas became a bonafide pan-Indian star, having amassed a massive fanbase all across the country, and in several parts of the world, like no other actor has been able to, previously. Post the success of the Baahubali franchise, and Prabhas’s rise as a pan-Indian actor, almost every star hero in the South, especially in Tollywood, is making pan-Indian movies currently.

While fans and Telugu audiences are excited about this, whether or not these actors will be able to replicate the success of Baahubali and Prabhas is a major doubt for everyone. Post Baahubali, several actors tried releasing their films in Hindi – the best example being Gautamiputra Satakarni and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy – but none of these films appealed to the North audiences. It is now to be seen if the various pan-Indian films from Tollywood will fare well or not in the North.
