IPL: Announcement on continuing this season expected very soon

This year’s IPL started on time and was about to end by the end of May. However, the second wave of coronavirus resulted in the untimely stopping of this year’s season, as many players had tested positive for the virus.

Last year, unlike every time, IPL had taken place towards the end of 2020, due to the first wave of the pandemic. That too, last year’s season took place in Dubai, as the country has a lower rate of coronavirus. Considering that things were getting better in India until the second wave hit during the midweek of April, the BCCI chose to go ahead with conducting this year’s IPL season as per schedule in India, in a few select cities. After several players tested positive, this year’s IPL was put on hold indefinitely.

According to the latest reports, an official announcement of whether or not the remainder of this season will be conducted is expected to be made on May 29th, after the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) special general meeting. The remainder of the season is expected to take place in September or October, in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) once again, if the BCCI decides to go ahead with conducting the remainder of the season.
