Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has landed in controversy after a Ludhiana court issued summons against him over one of his songs. The complaint claims that his track Sirra contains drug-related and disrespectful lyrics.
The petitioner, Rajdeep Singh Mann from Samrala, said the song promotes drug culture and insults the Sikh tradition of gurti, which symbolizes purity.
The lyrics in question mention opium being given to newborns, which the complainant called offensive.
The court has also named platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Warner Music India in the petition. Randhawa has been asked to appear before the court on September 2 either in person or through a lawyer.
This comes soon after his recent music video Azul faced backlash online for allegedly “sexualising” a schoolgirl.
Advocate Gurbir Singh Dhillon stated that the song “Siraa” by singer Guru Randhawa uses the word “ਗੂੜਤੀ” (Gurti), which is a sacred term also found in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
