Vishwak Sen‘s Gaami has been in the making for almost six years and is seeing the light of the day finally. Directed by Vidyadhar Kagita, this film was released today. Let’s review it here.
Gaami Story: The story starts with the Agoras asking Shankar(Viswak Sen) to leave their world and never come back. Shankar cannot sustain a human touch and his only way to live is to get the special mushrooms which have a special power and can heal Shankar. At the same time, a man in a lab is trying to get out and on the other hand, a small girl is trying to break out as the villagers are all set to make her a Devadasi. How all the stories are connected to Shankar’s life is the basic story of the film.
Performances: Vishwak Sen will be seen in a new avatar and has done a great job in the film. He is subdued and plays the role as per the limitations and is amazing. After a long gap, Chandini Chowdary got a good role and she was also neat. Harika, who plays a key role did a terrific job in her role. Mohammad Samad also had a great role and he was amazing in all the escape scenes.
Technical Aspects: Gaami is undoubtedly one of the best-made films in recent times. Be it the visuals, BGM or production design, everything is too notch. One of the biggest assets of the film is the BGM by Naresh Kumaran as he takes you into a world that is mind-blowing.
The camera work needs a special mention as the snowfall visuals, lab setup are showcased superbly. The pace of the film is a bit slow. The production values of the film are top-notch. For the budget spent Gaami is solid.
Karthik Sabarish, the producer who believed in the story, started the film with crowdfunding, faced many ups and downs during the post-production, brought a good buzz to the film, and released it in theatres, which is commendable.
Analysis: Gaami has been in the making for the longest time and did it live up to the hype, yes it did. For the budget spent, Gaami has amazing visuals and is showcased solidly.
The film showcases three different stories with a connection. How these stories are connected is showcased in a gripping manner. Vishwak Sen and his character and how he goes through a lot of struggle to reach his destiny to lead a normal life is showcased beautifully.
The climax twist of the film was also quite good. The director Vidyadhar should be appreciated a lot for attempting something like this solidly showcasing the film. The young director is the one to watch out for as he has all the talent.
The team should be appreciated for risking so much to get the desired visuals. However, the main twist in the film should have been showcased in a more gripping manner. The pace of the film is slow and takes time to hit you but once it does it entertains you completely.
Gaami is made in multiple genres. There is a bit of fantasy, adventure, and also thrills which keep you invested till the end. Such films need to be encouraged and take Telugu cinema to the next level altogether.
Verdict: Overall, Gaami is a visual spectacle and a new-age film that has a good storyline and great thrills. Though its unique storyline and performances make this film a good watch this weekend.
Bottom Line: Epic Adventure
Rating: 3.5/5
