Dunki: SRK-Hirani Collaboration Misses Box Office Mark

Talented senior Bollywood director Rajkumar Hirani, known for helming hits like Munnabhai franchise, Sanju, 3 Idiots, and PK, experienced a setback with his most recent movie, “Dunki.” He had never previously collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan. The December 21st release, “Dunki,” did not meet expectations despite high hopes.

Hirani’s previous movies garnered immense success due to their compelling narratives. With ‘Dunki’, many anticipated a similar triumph, especially with the star power of Shah Rukh Khan. However, the film fell short of expectations. Despite decent reviews, the promotional content didn’t resonate well with a broad audience, affecting its box office performance.

The film’s genre proved divisive, failing to connect with all viewers and adversely impacting its prospects. As ‘Dunki’ was released recently and its box office numbers haven’t soared, achieving a worldwide gross of 500Cr and 250Cr net in India appears challenging.

Even with hopes pinned on a significant surge during the New Year weekend, the film’s collections in India plummeted to single digits, making the target seem even harder to reach. This downturn represents a first for Rajkumar Hirani, who, until now, solely experienced blockbuster success. ‘Dunki’ poses a unique challenge in his otherwise illustrious career.
