Anurag Kashyap Slams Netflix India, Calls Out Hypocrisy

Anurag Kashyap recently made headlines for criticizing Bollywood. He said he has quit Hindi cinema and directly targeted Netflix India. He praised the British drama Adolescence on Netflix and admitted feeling jealous, saying no Indian filmmaker would be allowed to make such a bold show on the platform.

Replying to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos’ post, Anurag wrote, “Every once in a while, a show comes that pushes boundaries, redefines creativity, and delivers career-best performances”.

“I hope he truly means it because Netflix India is the complete opposite. If they were pitched this, they would have probably rejected it or turned it into a 90-minute film, which wouldn’t even be possible since it doesn’t have a clear-cut ending”.

He further criticized Netflix, calling out the hypocrisy of Ted Sarandos and Bella Bajaria when it comes to India, where their only focus is gaining more subscribers.

He recalled how Eric Barmack once reached out to collaborate, but now Netflix offers incomplete projects like Saare Jahan Se Achcha, which wasn’t well-written and has already changed directors and been shot twice. Anurag expressed frustration, saying he feels jealous and hopeless when he sees shows like Adolescence.
