Director Amit Rai has confirmed that his planned biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been shelved.
The film was supposed to star Shahid Kapoor and was one of Amit’s most ambitious projects planned for a 2024 release. In a interview Amit called the film industry ‘cruel’ and expressed his pain.
Although he did not tell the exact reason for the project being dropped but he said it was heartbreaking to see a story he lived with for five years being dismissed in minutes based on a few pages of feedback.
Despite his success with OMG 2 Amit feels the system makes it hard for directors to survive. As a result he has decided to produce his next film on his own.
Hungarian cinematographer Mate Herba and action expert Isaac Hamon have joined the project. Amit also revealed that Pankaj Tripathi will be part of the film and Akshay Kumar has shown interest.
