Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par is set for a theatrical release on June 20th. Recently, Aamir shared his views on how quick OTT releases are affecting theatre footfalls.
He suggested that every film should maintain at least an 8-week gap before releasing on digital platforms. He also revealed that Sitaare Zameen Par would release on YouTube after 8 weeks on a pay-per-view basis.
However, Netflix has now made a huge offer for the film’s digital rights. While the initial offer was Rs. 60 crores, which Aamir rejected, Netflix has now doubled it to Rs. 125 crores for all language versions.
It is still uncertain if Aamir will accept the deal or continue with his original YouTube release plan.
The film stars Aamir Khan and Genelia in lead roles and is produced under Aamir Khan Productions. Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the Spanish sports drama Champions.
