As the Sankranti season approaches, everyone’s attention in the film industry is fixed on the upcoming releases and their schedules. This focus has led to overlooking an entire weekend before the big festival rush. Films like ‘Salaar‘ and ‘Dunki‘ were released just before Christmas, leaving about ten days for them to maximize their earnings.
Despite this opportunity, the current chatter revolves around the highly anticipated Sankranti releases scheduled from January 12th. People are buzzing about the songs, trailers, events, and interviews related to these four projects. Surprisingly, the first weekend of January received scant attention, even from industry insiders.
Some voices suggest that instead of squeezing into the crowded Sankranti race, one major film could have been released during this overlooked weekend. However, producers are primarily focused on capitalizing on the festive season of Sankranti, foregoing the chance to release films earlier.
Yet, a few smaller films like ‘Double Engine’, ‘Prema Katha’, and ‘Raghava Reddy’ are making their way to theaters during this period. Looking ahead, ‘Guntur Karam‘ and ‘Hanuman‘ are set for a January 12th release, followed by ‘Saindhav‘ on February 13th, and ‘Naa Saami Ranga‘ starring Nagarjuna the day after. It remains to be seen if the decision to disregard the first week of 2024 will prove beneficial in the coming weeks or if releasing films during this period would have been a wiser move.
