Agnyaathavaasi
Pawan Kalyan Agnyaathavaasi Review

Any film that strives to appeal a large group of audience, it needs to have an appeal that will entertain every person in the theatre. We cannot take the money paying customer for granted and one should have minimum respect towards them that they try and give a coherent film.

Somehow, big films these days either seem to have high quality or just come up with some grand looking visuals and random old movie scenes, expecting they would make up for all the loopholes. We wonder what made them take the film going audience for granted and come up with some absurd film that doesn’t fit for the hype and also, seem worth for money.

Plot : Abhishiktha Bhargav (Pawan Kalyan) is forced to come out in open as the conspirators around his father, Vinda (Boman Irani), kill his brother and father in order to prove them as accidents. He looks to stay afloat with all the plans of the conspirators while being one among them.

For this, he meets Sukumari (Keerthy Suresh) and Suryakantham (Anu Emmanuel). Both give him some leads to solve and by the time, he gets to Sharma (Murali Sharma) and Verma (Rao Ramesh), he is forced to announce himself to save his step-mother, Indrani (Khusuboo Sundar). So, is there any other angle for Sharma and Verma to betray Vinda? Are they the real conspirators? How does Seetharam (Adhi Pinisetty) fit into the matters?

Performances : Pawan Kalyan is not trying to please his audience anymore. He is just trying to do what he knows and what worked for him earlier, rather than pushing himself. We have already seen being feminine on screen and even acting like a child. There is nothing new in that aspect even in this film and they don’t workout well too. Pawan’s comic timing is very inconsistent in this movie and his lack of concentration is visible in many scenes here.

Anu Emmanuel and Keerthy Suresh, are good in being caricatures through out the film. The movie fails to give them some good characterisation and we wonder, what is the whole point of having two good looking women romance Pawan Kalyan without good roles. Khushuboo is highly under-utilised and Boman Irani is wasted.

Rao Ramesh gets good comedy track but Murali Sharma, Tanikella Bharani, Vennela Kishore, Adhi Pinisetty are wasted without having much to do or contribute to the story, overall.

Technicalities : Music composer Anirudh Ravichander did his worst work of the career for this film. Except for few songs and BG scores, the entire film looks like a rushed effort from him. He just used to many instruments and as loud as possible that too, to cover up even the dialogues. When the scenes isn’t funny enough, no matter how much comic music you give, the scene doesn’t work out.

Cinematographer Manikandan seems to have rushed to complete his DI work and many scenes seem to have the worst possible color grading that we tend to feel is definitely some renders away to be complete. This definitely doesn’t mark to one of his best works, may be the weakest, for sure.

Editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao seems to have just assembled a movie that Trivikram Srinivas wanted to make some sense rather than really cutting out the parts that look bad and boring. Removing them, atleast would have helped the movie to be crisp. Few overlong sequences that lead to nowhere end up even further disappointing us.

Writer and director, Trivikram Srinivas seems to have grown immune to what public expect from him. Either he is in his cucoon or he is completely out of sorts. His past three films, even though have been hits, did face a lot of criticism for not being at the standards he set. The major problem with this one is that the movie doesn’t go anywhere and ends up revolving round and round at the same crux point even after establishing and explaining it.

These kind of films rely on deep grown theories and interesting characters. When you have a plot like this and an ensemble of actors, we expect writers like Trivikram to rise up to the occasion and deliver the best possible output. Rather, he is simple trying to tell the same story in the same way that doesn’t even interest him to see after few days. He basically needs to come out of his Attharintiki Daredi hangover and try something new that can prove that he is still alive somewhere and this is his Agnyathavasam.

Analysis : The movie fails to create a world around the characters and give them characterisations. This seems like a first draft that has made into the film due to lack of time. When trying to make such a huge film, he needs to think about what makes the movie work rather than making a good business proposition. Agnyathavasi is nothing more than a business proposition that failed in living upto the standards that people come to expect from this combination. On the whole, this is a nightmare for Pawan Kalyan fans and double the nightmare for Trivikram Srinivas’s fans.

Rating : 2/5
