The death of popular Assamese singer and songwriter Zubeen Garg has drawn nationwide attention. He passed away in September last year after drowning during a yacht party in Singapore. Firstly there were many doubts and rumors surrounding the incident.
According to the official report Garg first wore a life jacket while swimming but later removed it and refused to wear another. He entered the water without a life jacket alone and tried to swim toward Lazarus Island.
Later he was found floating face down in the water. He was rescued and given CPR but he was declared dead the same day.
The autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death. Toxicology reports showed high alcohol levels which may have affected his coordination. Garg also had health issues like hypertension and epilepsy and it is unclear if he had taken his medication.
Singapore police have ruled out foul play and called it an accidental death while a special team in Assam continues its investigation for now.
