Yash Raj Films has created its own spy universe, with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan as Indian spying teams fighting against the odds to defend the nation. Initially, films such as ‘Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, and ‘War’ were standalone productions.
However, the huge response to ‘Pathaan’, particularly with SRK and Salman together, inspired YRF to create a connected universe. While the franchise has been a movie office success, ‘Tiger 3’ left some fans disappointed owing to repeated plot.
There’s now speculation about whether YRF will innovate inside the universe or rely entirely on star power to drive box office figures. Upcoming projects include ‘War 2’, where Hrithik reprises his role as Kabir, with reports suggesting NTR playing the antagonist. Directed by Ayan Mukherji, the film is expected to set the stage for a showdown between SRK and Salman’s characters.
Furthermore, reports say that ‘Pathaan 2’ project will begin production before the end of 2024. The lineup looks promising, but the true test will be if YRF can recover from the lackluster reception to ‘Tiger 3’.
