Gautamiputra Satakarni has become the latest centre of debate with its claims to being a Telugu King’s story who ruled India and annihilated Demitrius of Greek dynasty. Many historians slacked the team for the very claims and said that the movie depicts fiction rather than truth. They claimed that without proper research the movie team sought out for tax exemption from State Governments and that should rebuked was their primary demand. They even wrote an open letter asking for a discussion on the issue. The matter slowly started gaining weight and director Krish decided to react to these allegations in his own way. When asked about the historical accuracy of Satakarni’s Telugu identity, the director said that no one is above Kavi Samrat Vishwanatha Satyarayana who placed Gautamiputra Satakarni among the Telugu Emperors.

He again said that the historical truth lies in what you believe as the history is a reconstruction based on few evidences and no body can claim it to be entirely true without giving some percent of fiction credit. He further said that no one knows including him more than what we read in textbooks about the king, Gautamiputra Satakarni, so he did extensive research and found out there is no complete so he took several facts and added fiction to it. He further explained that there is no historical evidence on the King took on his mother’s name and changed to Gautamiputra Satakarni from Satakarni and also the evidence regarding from when he announced Ugadi as a festival, is also missing. So these things had to be fictionalized for the film in order to create a compelling drama but such facts cannot be denied in the name of fiction he said.

When asked about how a historian requested the Telangana Government to revoke the tax exemption, he replied that he doesn’t want to comment on the issue but feels that few people cannot digest him getting a tax exemption for such a good film about history and in jealousy people can do anything. He further shared his happiness with several senior actors and celebrities praising his film and said that he is happy to have made his parents and everyone in his team proud for making such a Telugu film that people will remember. He again clarified that his ‘Khabardar’ was just in reference to his film’s character but not to invoke any battle with any hero whom he respects alot.
