Sonam Bajwa recently spoke about her role in Housefull 5 and the criticism the film received for its portrayal of women. She said she was fully aware from the start that she would not get a strong role in the film.
According to Sonam women actors often have to take up smaller roles first before they are given a chance to prove their true acting potential.
Sonam said she respects the viewers opinions and understands why some people were unhappy with the film. She also said that many big commercial films give more importance to male characters while female roles are often limited to adding glamour.
Since Housefull is a large franchise with many senior actors and she knew she would not get much screen space, but she accepted it as it was her first Hindi film.
Sonam added that she was confident that audiences would see her real acting ability in later projects like Ek Deewani Ki Deewaniyat. She also compared her journey to Alia Bhatt’s debut, saying even Alia started with a typical heroine role before showing her full potential.
Sonam concluded by saying she tried to make the most of her limited screen time, especially through comedy, which she feels is not easy to perform.
