The euphoria that was created among Telugu audiences when Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri released in 2006 still remains unmatchable and unparalleled. The only actor’s name that could be heard across the nation was Mahesh Babu. The euphoria and craze around Mahesh got so huge that even Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan commented on Mahesh’s stardom when he was hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati.
By the time Pokiri released, Mahesh was already reinventing himself as an actor, with back to back acclaims for his performance in Arjun and Athadu. And when Pokiri hit the screens, people were awestruck by Mahesh’s charisma, effortless performance, attitude on screen, and stylish looks. To date, fans name Pokiri as the film that showed Mahesh in the most stylish avatar. While Mahesh faced a string of flops after Pokiri, his second collaboration with director Trivikram, Khaleja, was the first film that brought out a new angle from Mahesh.
Until then, Mahesh’s comic timing wasn’t extracted by any director on the screen. This was the major highlight of Khaleja and still remains to be so, while also being one of Mahesh’s finest films to date. While Dookudu, Businessman and Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu were all successful films, they were a deviation from the vintage Mahesh Babu that everyone fell in love with. A tinge of this vintage Mahesh was seen in Sukumar’s 1: Nenokkadine, and that was that. With Mahesh now teaming up with Trivikram for the third time, fans are hoping that they will get to see their vintage Superstar on the screen once again, putting the box office on fire. Here’s hoping that this will be true.
