Released on December 2nd, Akhanda starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role went on to become one of the huge hits in 2021. Directed by Boyapati Seenu, the film is still witnessing houseful boards during weekends in a few major cities across twin Telugu states.
As per the inside reports, the makers have sold the film’s non-theatrical rights to Disney Plus Hotstar. Reports suggest that as by the agreement, Disney Plus Hotstar management has the right to stream Akhanda on digital or satellite platforms six weeks after the film’s release. But as big films like RRR and Radhe Shyam which are scheduled for a theatrical release during the Sankranthi season are postponed, Akhanda makers are hoping that the film will mint decent revenues during the festival season and are keen on requesting the entertainment channel to postpone the digital streaming of the film.
Already news is coming in that Disney Plus Hotstar management is planning for a digital premiere for Akhanda on January 14th as a Sankranthi special. During this time, will the Disney Plus Hotstar management consider Akhanda makers’ request? Needs to be seen.
