Akkineni Nagarjuna’s intense thriller, Wild Dog has caught the audience attention with its stylish trailer. Amid good expectations, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s check how it goes.
Story: In order to crack the Pune John’s Bakery bomb blasts case, the Indian government brings ACP Vijay Varma ( Nagarjuna) on board. Fondly known as Wild Dog in the department, NIA officer Vijay Varma reunion with his previous batchmates to nab terrorists. What kind of challenges will Vijay Varma and his team face in the risky journey? How will the team end the combing operation successfully? Forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Nagarjuna as an NIA officer is super and gave a natural performance. His screen presence and body language as an intelligent cop will definitely bring a lot of depth to the proceedings.
Bollywood actress Saiyami Kher as RAW agent looks sharp and did her role quite convincingly. Bigg Boss fame Ali Reza and the other actors, who did key roles in the NIA team are apt in their roles.
The coordination scenes between the team are showcased in an authentic manner. Dia Mirza is just okay in her small cameo.
Technicalities: The best part of Wild Dog is that it completely sticks to the content and ignores all unwanted typical commercial elements. Director Ahishor Solomon made it sure to present the film in a proper spy-thriller genre.
Though the film is out an out action-packed thriller, the proceedings fall falt at regular intervals in the first half but the last twenty minutes of the film is engaging and the mind game sequence played by the team during this time will keep the audience hooked to the proceedings.
As the film is a proper thriller, it has no songs but the background score by SS Thaman is outstanding. In fact, it is his sounding that elevates most of the film.
Editing work is done so perfectly that the film has hardly unwanted scenes and the runtime is also kept crispy.
Cinematography by Shaniel Deo is apt to the film’s genre and he succeeded in bringing the raw and rustic flavour on the screen.
Production values for this star stunned film are rich.
Analysis: As promoted by the makers, Wild Dog is a serious action drama from start to end. Though the premise and the backdrop created for the movie has a lot of realistic feels, the establishment scenes in the first half are not executed as per the audience expectations but the last twenty minutes of the film is nicely dealt with as the combing operation to nab the main terrorist has been showcased with good intensity. All we suggest is to keep a check on the expectations and Wild Dog will end up as a easy one time watch.
Verdict: A passable thriller
