Why Telugu Producers Overvalue Tamil Heroes?

Telugu producers seem to be overestimating the market value of Tamil heroes compared to their own local stars. Historically, they’ve negotiated aggressively with Telugu heroes, leading to cancellations of projects due to high remuneration demands. However, the trend has shifted, with massive remunerations being offered to Tamil heroes like Vijay and reportedly Ajith.

This shift became evident when Dil Raju offered Vijay a staggering 120Cr remuneration for ‘Varisu’, which significantly inflated the film’s budget, ultimately impacting its quality and leading to no profits for the producer. This move is unprecedented as Dil Raju has never offered such a massive sum to any Telugu hero.

Now, Mythri Movie Makers are reportedly following suit by offering Ajith an eye-popping 150Cr remuneration. This decision appears puzzling considering that Ajith’s films have not consistently surpassed the 100Cr mark at the box office. With such colossal remuneration, the movie’s budget might soar to 220Cr or beyond, raising concerns about its feasibility for recovering costs.

The disparity in how producers assess the market worth of Tamil and Telugu stars raises questions about their business strategies and the perceived value of these actors, especially when the financial success of previous films doesn’t align with the offered remunerations.
