People from Telugu semi recently expressed their dissatisfaction on social media about two Malayalam movies that both were hugely successful in Kerala and earned over Rs100 crore at the box office. Many thought these movies were overhyped when they were first released on OTT.
Their opinion was based on the fact that there was no solid screenplay, an element they noticed as a hindrance to the narrative engagement. While some reviewers linked scenes in ‘Aavesham’ to popular Telugu shows like ‘Oosaravelli’, others compared it to similar types of comedies in their own culture. ‘ The performances were rated as OK, but they were not considered as the best.
‘Premalu‘ and ‘Avasham’ might have been controversial among the Telugu viewers but that shouldn’t obsolete the fact that they are bigger hits in Kerala with a loyal audience. The difference that the manner is received emphasizes the nuances of various national tastes and preferences.
What attracts people in one area might not necessarily be the thing that will get the audiences in another area. In this case, even though these films failed to touch the hearts of the Telugu audience, their impact in Kerala only shows what kind of impression it made on a diverse cultural population.
