Why South Indian films are ruling defines Director Sanjay Gupta

Sanjay Gupta, the director, expresses his concern about how South Indian films dominate theatrical attendance while Hindi films struggle at the box office.

Sanjay Gupta, the director, has chosen to speak out about the failure of Hindi films to perform well at the box office while South Indian films continue their illustrious runs. The Hindi film industry has recently experienced a rough period at the box office, with most of the films underperforming while South Indian films continue to do well.

Almost every well-known figure in the industry had something to say about this, which sparked a North vs. South Debate. Hindi filmmakers were a little concerned about how to make their films successful in light of the success of films like KGF 2, Pushpa, and RRR at the Hindi Box Office. Unfortunately, it appeared that Hindi films had lost their appeal to audiences.

Sanjay Gupta, the director of Shootout at Lokhandwala, argues a very basic reality as the primary cause of South Indian films’ success and Hindi films’ failure.

Sanjay Gupta took to Twitter to express his views on this North Vs South debate. His tweet read, “The main reason the South film industry will continue to prosper and soar is that their big stars, directors & producers refuse to go straight to digital…”

The Kaante director further added, “…This is what is keeping their ecosystem (Theatres) alive. While we are busy killing ours.” His tweet came as a reaction to a news piece written by The Hollywood Reporter. The website reported Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “Driving Folks to a Theatre is not just our business!

Big directors and producers going direct to digital has recently been the subject of discussion. While Anand L Rai released the Atrangi Re movie starring Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan on Hotstar, Zoya Akhtar has plans to make a Netflix original movie starring Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, and Khushi Kapoor.

Sanjay Gupta’s worry that filmmakers are destroying the theatrical system for ordinary and mid-grossing films sounds serious. I hope the Hindi film industry solves this problem as soon as possible!

Gupta’s most recent film, Mumbai Saga, starring Emraan Hashmi and John Abraham, was directed and received mixed reviews.
