Why Jana Nayagan Shows Were Stopped In Karnataka

Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has run into trouble in Karnataka after several theatres stopped screening the film due to protests over the Cauvery water dispute.

Theatre owners suspended shows as a precaution following police advisories and concerns about law and order.

A few reports say pro-Kannada groups staged protests in Mandya and other areas with some protesters demanding that the film be removed from theatres and taking down its posters.

The issue is not related to the film content but is linked to the ongoing Cauvery water sharing dispute between Karnataka and T.N.

Released on July 23rd, Jana Nayagan had opened well in Karnataka. However the protests are expected to affect its box office until normalcy returns. Neither Vijay nor the makers have responded so far.
