Director Gunasekhar has confirmed that his long-delayed dream project Hiranyakashyapa has been shelved. He spent nearly five years developing the mythological film which was planned on a massive budget of around Rs 300 crore.
According to Gunasekhar, Fox Star Studios was initially backing the project but things changed after Disney acquired the company, causing the film to stall.
Recently, Rana Daggubati announced a film based on the same story with Trivikram as writer which surprised many.
Gunasekhar said he spoke with Trivikram and had concerns that some of his visual ideas might be used. However he clarified that no one can claim exclusive rights over mythological stories.
He also cited the success of the animated film Mahavatar Narsimha. Gunasekhar revealed that he now has four new stories ready and hopes to begin a new project very soon.
