Who will win: Rajamouli or Coronavirus?

Director SS Rajamouli became a sensation across India, after the stupendous success of the Baahubali franchise. He managed to do what no other director in the country did, and delivered two back to back pan-Indian blockbusters. Naturally, the expectations on his upcoming RRR are sky-high, or even more, because of the sheer amount and scale the film is being made on, and the story and cast of characters.

With Ram Charan and NTR headlining RRR, the film will definitely get good openings in the Telugu states, but the real task is to get it going in North India and South India. Since actors like Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt are involved in the project, the film will manage to get good openings in the North also, and considering Rajamouli’s reputation, the rest of South India shouldn’t be a problem.

However, the biggest problem that Rajamouli will have to face is Coronavirus. North India, especially Maharashtra, is intensely struck with coronavirus. There’s no guarantee when things will return to normalcy in the Northern states, even after the second wave comes to an end. When Tollywood was enjoying a successful theatrical run after the lockdown, theatres in the North had barely opened up, and not a single notable Hindi film was released in theatres. This means that Rajamouli would have to pick the right time to release RRR, as releasing it without theatres not fully functioning in the North, and audiences there not willing to go to theatres would result in huge losses for the makers. As a result, it is now to be seen if Rajamouli will be able to wield his magic this time and be able to get great openings for RRR, or if Coronavirus will get in the way of it.
