Shakeela was given the name Shakeela Begum when she was born into a Muslim family in Kodambakkam, Madras, India. She took an unusual route into the film industry because she was unable to pass the test for her high school diploma before starting her career.
Shakeela has primarily appeared in B films and softcore pornography from the start of her acting career.
