What is the status of Shaakuntalam?

It is widely known that senior filmmaker Gunasekhar is working on his ambitious mythological magnum opus, Shaakuntalam for the last three years or so. Starring Samantha in the titular role, the shooting formalities for the film wrapped up last year itself.

Earlier this year the team has even unveiled the first look poster of the film in which Samantha is seen in a princess look but the poster got mixed response from the audience. Later, there is no promotional activity from the team of Shaakuntalam and raising doubts about the film’s status. As per the inside reports, the post-production activities for the film are taking more time than expected and it is the main reason behind the makers not kick-starting the promotional activities. Overcoming all the hurdles, will Shaakuntalam have a theatrical release this year? Remains to be seen.

Also starring Malayalam actor Dev Mohan in King Dushyant’s role, Shaakuntalam is being bankrolled by Neelima Guna. Dil Raju is presenting this prestigious project.
