RRR and KGF 2 are two of the biggest hits in India currently, with RRR collecting over Rs. 1000 Crores, and KGF 2 creating new records with its collections. Both of these films have been two of the most anticipated films for several years now, and most certainly didn’t disappoint upon their release.
The success of these films makes it very clear that the Indian audience is always game for massy, action films that offer them entertainment and a sense of escapism from their daily lives. This is one area where Bollywood seems to be going wrong for the past few years, as the Hindi filmmakers are concentrating more on concept-driven films which are highly derived from the west, and cater to only a certain set of audiences.
This is not to say that making such films is wrong, but that it is always important to maintain a balance between both the aspects – entertainment and concept. The same is applicable for the South Indian film industries, which have to maintain a balance, without which the audience would get tired of watching the same old thing on the big screen.
