The Academy Award for 2023 went to Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR. It won the Best Song award, making it the first song from an Indian production to do so.
And the time has come for which we have all been waiting. The Oscars 2023 have been decided, and Naatu Naatu has won! The song made history when it won the Best Song award for the first time ever, coming from an Indian movie.
In the Best Song category, Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR won the Oscar. Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick),
Raise Me Up (Black Panther Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life were the other contenders in the category that it had to defeat (Everything Everywhere All at Once). With a Namaste, music director MM Keeravaani accepted the honour.
With this, the movie made history by becoming the first Indian-produced song to win the prize.
The first Indian song to win this prestigious award was Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire in 2009 in the same category. This is the second Indian song to do so.
Naatu Naatu had already won the Golden Globe for Best Song in 2023.
THE NAATU NAATU FEVER AT THE 2023 OSCARS This year’s Oscars have been dominated by the Naatu Naatu obsession.
The ceremony opened with a mock performance in which Jimmy Kimmel was pushed off stage by dancers doing the Naatu Naatu hookstep.
The audience saw a lively performance of the song as well. Even though Ram Charan and Jr. NTR didn’t move during Rahul Sipligunj and Kalaa Bairavaa’s live performance on stage,
dancers took control of the stage and set it on fire. One of them was Lauren Gottlieb. The audience applauded the act while standing.
RRR won a number of American prizes, made it onto the BAFTA 2023 longlist for Film Not in the English Language,
won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and also took home Best Song and Best Foreign Language Cinema at the 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
