Vivek Agnihotri Reacts on Same-Gender Marriage

Recently, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri aired his opinions and spoke out in favour of same-gender unions.

Among the most well-known directors in Indian cinema is Vivek Agnihotri. He has produced a number of significant hits during the course of his more than 20-year career. However, the contentious remarks of the director rather than his artistic work generate headlines. Agnihotri recently expressed his opinions in favour of same-sex marriage, but internet users are not persuaded. To find out why, scroll.

Agnihotri started out in Indian cinema working for advertising companies before moving on to create TV series. He made the jump to Bollywood in 2005 and directed the colossal flop Chocolate. However, the director continued to pursue his love and produced a number of successful films, including his most recent project, The Kashmir Files.

Returning to the news, it is reported that the Centre has submitted a declaration to the Supreme Court in which it refers to same-Gender marriage as a “urban elitist” idea. The tweet caught the attention of Vivek Agnihotri, who denounced it, spoke up in favour of same-Gender marriage, and referred to it as a “human need”.

He tweeted, “NO. Same-Gender marriage is not an ‘urban elitist’ concept. It’s a human need. Maybe some sarkari elites drafted it who have never travelled in small towns & villages. Or Mumbai locals. First, same sex marriage is not a concept. It’s a need. It’s a right. And in a progressive, liberal & inclusive civilisation like Bharat, same-sex marriage should be normal, not a crime.”

The fact that the filmmaker made a relatively uncontroversial comment did not sit well with online users because they are unsure if these are his opinions. a member of twitter wrote,“NOT SURE IF YOU REALLY MEAN IT!!” while another penned, “Did I read this right?!”

A third user penned, “For once you sent a sane message.”
“For the 1st time I agree with you!” wrote a fourth one.
