What better way to celebrate #ThrowbackThursday than to review how Hrithik Roshan worked his magic as Vedha in Vikram Vedha?
Hrithik Roshan’s comeback to the big screen was eagerly anticipated, and what a return it was! With Vikram Vedha, the actor created a brand-new standard for acting by playing a gangster without apology and with an unmatched screen presence that reflected the character’s essence without compromising his star status.
Hrithik Roshan fully embraced the character of “Vedha,” absorbing all of its intricacies and not just acting out the part. Hrithik let go of all inhibitions in order to embody “Vedha,” and as part of his preparation, he was prepared to be unconventional and zany. He completely relaxed and gave in to the process, taking part in everything from voice training and speaking gibberish to conversation rehearsals, dancing to 80s music, expressing himself through nature, and filming himself in order to hone his mannerisms and dialect.
The actor posted a BTS video and said, “To become ‘Vedha’ I had to first find comfort in being a ‘yeda’. 9 months of prepping & being Vedha – from October 2021 to June 2022. Exactly the time human lives take to birth. Vedha has been a process of moulding from scratch, today it’s a character I’m proud of. Learning to talk, walk, dance, eat & live like Vedha has been sheer joy. There may not be Hrithik in Vedha, but there will always remain Vedha in Hrithik.”
The Pushkar-Gayatri-directed Vikram Vedha, which also features Saif Ali Khan, was released on September 29, 2022, or six months ago. Vedha is portrayed by Hrithik in a role that is in and of itself a masterwork. Taking on a role that has already been performed and garnered praise wasn’t an easy task, but Hrithik not only tried it—he also raised the bar.
