Tamil Nadu politics is seeing a major change. Since 1967 the state was mainly ruled by the DMK and AIADMK parties.
But in the 2026 Assembly elections actor Vijay created history with his party TVK. The party won 107 seats and became the single largest party. DMK got 74 seats while the NDA won 53 seats.
Though TVK is slightly short of the majority mark Vijay is almost certain to become the next Chief Minister.
Interestingly, Vijay once stayed away from politics and even filed a case against his own parents. In 2020 his father S.A. Chandrasekhar converted Vijay’s fan club into a political party called Vijay Makkal Iyakkam without informing him.
Angry over this Vijay filed a case in 2021 asking people not to use his name or photos for politics. Later Vijay changed his mind and launched TVK in 2024. Now, he is set to lead Tamil Nadu politically.
