Vetrimaaran Quits Film Production

Director Vetrimaaran has decided to quit film production after more than ten years. He announced that his company, Grass Root Film Company, will close after the release of Bad Girl.

Speaking at a press meet in Chennai, he explained that producing films has become too stressful compared to directing.

While directing, we focus on storytelling, producing involves handling everything, including reactions to teasers and public comments.

He added that the film’s business also gets affected by what cast or crew say, which increases the pressure. For independent producers like him, who depend on borrowed money, these challenges become too much to handle.

His recent productions, Manushi and Bad Girl, also faced issues with the Censor Board. Manushi, directed by N. Gopi Nainar and starring Andrea Jeremiah, was cleared only after 25 cuts. Bad Girl, starring Anjali Sivaraman, was criticised after its teaser but eventually received a U/A certificate.
