Veteran Actor Mumtaz Makes Shocking Revelation About Shammi Kapoor and Family

In a previous interview, Mumtaz discussed how Shammi Kapoor and she were unable to be married because of their distinct castes.

Mumtaz, a former Bollywood star and one of the highest-paid actresses of her era, experienced a lot both personally and professionally. With Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz produced some of her career’s best successes, but Shammi Kapoor won her heart on a personal level. The seasoned actress revealed in an interview that Shammi intended to marry her but that their relationship fell apart when the Hindu-Muslim issue came into play.

The most well-known films that Mumtaz has produced include Do Raaste, Roti, Loafer, Aap Ki Kasam, and others. She even had the opportunity to collaborate with Shammi Kapoor, the passion of her life, on films like Brahmachari and Vallah Kya Baat Hai.

In one of her prior interviews, Mumtaz discussed her relationship with Shammi Kapoor. She was flirted with by several famous guys in the business, but Shammi was the one who really fell in love with her. He even proposed marriage to her, but she declined because she was only 18 at the time and wanted to concentrate on her career. “Kapoors didn’t like it if the bahus in their family were in the film line. Shammi told me that if I wanted him to be happy with me, I would have to give up my career,” shared Mumtaz, further stating, “Now at that young age, I was very ambitious and wanted to reach somewhere.”

The veteran Bollywood star added, “I wanted to settle my family as well. Just to sit at home didn’t go down with me.” Mumtaz also revealed that her mother too warned her against marrying Shammi since he was very popular among the ladies and also because, “He was a Hindu and I was a Muslim.”

Prior to his passing, Shammi Kapoor discussed in an interview how his relationship with Mumtaz was a nightmare since they both had dreams. The actor was questioned about his memories of Mumtaz from the movie when discussing the success of Brahamchari. He said, “At that time, I was a widower, and Mumtaz happened to be a very pretty little girl, and for a little short while, we both had dreams and then it turned into a nightmare. I’m happy as I am today.”

For those who are unaware, Mumtaz wed Ugandan millionaire Mayur Madhwani in 1974, left Bollywood, and relocated to London.
