Veteran Actor Javed Khan Amrohi Passed Away due to Lung Failure

The legendary actor was incapacitated for the previous year due to a respiratory condition. He was receiving care at Surya Nursing Home in a Mumbai neighbourhood.

Veteran theatre and film actor Javed Khan Amrohi passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in this city from lung failure, according to his filmmaker Ramesh Talwar. He was best known for his roles in the well-known DD serial “Nukkad” and movies like “Lagaan” and “Chak De! India.” He had just turned 70.

Both of his lungs failed, and he died at the hospital about 1:00 p.m., the source continued.
Amrohi’s longtime friend and co-star in the movie “Lagaan,” actor Akhilendra Mishra, revealed that he had been ill for a while.

He was my senior in theatre. He was an
active member of IPTA (Indian People’s
Theatre Association) Mumbai since the
1970s,” Mishra told PTI.

At 7.30 p.m., the actor’s final rituals will be performed at the Oshiwara Kabristan.

Amrohi began his acting career in theatre after receiving his degree from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTIT). He later made appearances in over 150 movies and nearly a dozen television programmes in smaller but crucial roles.

His most well-known roles include those of the cricket commentator in “Lagaan,” the barber Karim in the late 1980s TV series “Nukkad,” Anand Akela, one of the suitors of Raveena Andon’s character in “Andaz Apna Apna,” and a member of the Indian Women’s Hockey team in “Chak De! India.”

Danish Husain, an actor for stage and film, expressed his sympathy on Twitter.

“Gutted to hear of the passing of #JavedKhanAmrohi Bhai. This season seems to be one of goodbyes. Condolences to his family, friends, coworkers, and so on and so forth at @iptamumbai #Nukkadd #Lagaan,” Husain added.

Other significant works by Amrohi include the 1988 TV series “Mirza Ghalib” and popular 1990s films like “Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke” Laadla, “Ishq,” and others. His most recent listed acting role was Pakya from the 1991 film “Sadak” in the 2020 sequel “Sadak.”
