Velpari: Shankar’s Fantasy Historical Film Update

Director Shankar’s long-awaited dream project Velpari is finally moving forward. For years, the film remained only a concept, as producers were hesitant to take the risk, especially after the failures of Indian 2 and Ram Charan’s Game Changer.

Many production houses stayed away, but now a popular studio has agreed to bankroll the film on a large scale, giving hope to Shankar and his fans.

However the producers have set strict conditions. Shankar must submit a clear budget, a detailed shooting schedule, and a written assurance that the budget will not be exceeded as some of his past films went over budget.

Velpari is a three-part fantasy historical film based on Su Venkatesan’s novel Veera Yuga Nayakan Velpari, about the legendary Tamil ruler Vel Pari. Shankar aims to make it a global-standard, epic-scale movie, comparable to Game of Thrones or Avatar.
